St Lucy’s Dance Project began in 2012 to provide quality Dance workshops for children with disabilities. Dance Project provides children with special education needs along with their mainstream siblings and peers quality dance lessons and opportunities to extend their skills and confidence while having lots of fun!
Following Abbotsleigh School’s involvement in the annual ABBOX of FUN camps, and the success of St Lucy’s All Abilities Theatre Project – Both of these schools are pleased to present ‘DANCE PROJECT’. This collaboration project invites students to enjoy the fun and expression of Dance on a regular basis. Classes are designed by the Performing Arts Departments of both schools, for children of all abilities with a special focus on children with special education needs. Students will be taught by professional performance artists and mentored by senior dance students from Abbotsleigh school.
The students go directly from afternoon assembly to have afternoon tea with the Dance Project staff (St Lucy’s Artists and Aides). The students begin each Dance Project session with fun warm up activities that are based on solid Ballet technique.
The students work on spontaneous and designed choreography using different genres of music and having lots of fun. Each Dance Project group has approximately 10 students in it with a Dance Artist and an Aide and the support of Senior Abbotsleigh school Dance students who come over to join the Project. At about 4.05, the students begin to warm down and to recap the session.
Dance Project also invites parents to Open session and the members have the opportunity to perform at Abbotlsiegh Dance Concerts and St Lucy’s End of Year Concerts.
Please watch the website for Open Session information.
