Alchemy Exhibition Opening
6/4/2009
Around 40 friends and guests of St Lucy's attended a cocktail party to launch "Alchemy", an exhibition of the children's paintings in the Bent Street Lobby of Chifley Towers on Tuesday, 31 March.
Phil Kearns (Creative Arts Ambassador) officially opened the exhibition, declaring that as an uneducated art lover he adores the works, "I defy anyone in the room to paint as well as they do," he said.
Karen Atkins spoke of the children's freshness and spontaneity in their approach to the artistic process.
The crowd included Alex Bird, member of the Westpac Foundation Board, Ann Sherry, CEO of Carnival Australia and Judith Salmon of Salmon Galleries, who worked tirelessly to help bring about the event.
Earlier in the day, some of the St Lucy's and Abbotsleigh students who contributed to the exhibition visited the city to see their paintings, had their photo taken with Phil Kearns and enjoyed a celebratory milkshake.
11 canvases have been sold so far with many residents of Chifley Towers touring the exhibition and enthusing about the quality of the works.

Wilcannia Outreach
10/3/2009
It's hard enough for parents in a hub like Sydney to access resources for their special needs children but what if you live in remote Australia? What hope then?
St Lucy's has begun to make use of the James N Kirby Foundation grant won last year, to reach out to children with disabilities in remote Australia.
Principal Jo Karaolis and speech therapist Fiona Wallace flew to central NSW on 4 March to meet with educational representatives of the Wilcannia-Forbes diocese.
It is hoped the talks will lead to a program of information sharing that will benefit both sides.
