Made in the Image of God

1/8/2007

St Lucy's School Principal, Jo Karaolis, presented a paper to the Australian Catholic University Leadership Conference on 31 July 2007.

Jo Karaolis' paper proposed that inclusion of children with disabilities in mainstream schools be seen not as 'normalisation' of those children, but as a way of enriching the mainstream school with the uniquely diverse qualities of children who have learned that success is overcoming incredible difficulties and that the purpose of life is to live the happiness of each day.

St Lucy's School Art Exhibition

31/1/2007

Undersea The inaugural St Lucy's School Art Exhibition will be held at Salmon Galleries in McMahons Point in February from Sunday 18th to Sunday 25th. The exhibition named My brush dances like me, opens a window onto the unique learning experiences of our students.

The children of St Lucy's enjoy the special benefits of a radical and innovative creative arts program that highlights the value and richness of difference. St Lucy's is the first school to adopt the Reggio Emilia model of learning: one that recognises the creative arts as an integral component of the childs learning environment.

The St Lucy's community is currently raising funds for a new Creative Arts Centre. Once completed it will confirm the schools creative arts program as the nucleus of every childs learning experience.

The exhibition is the beginning of the St Lucy's Permanent Art Collection and will ultimately be housed in the Centre's gallery space. Visitors to Salmon Galleries are invited to select a painting of their choice and make a donation towards its inclusion in the Collection. For more information about the My brush dances like me exhibition, visit Salmon Galleries.

If you are unable to attend the exhibition, but would like to become a custodian of the Collection contact Gailene Keen on 9489 2472.

Sport success

21/12/2006

Athletics Maclean Our students have had an active participation in sports this year and their effort has resulted in St Lucy's winning the prestigious 2006 Colgate Cup at the Broken Bay Sports Awards. This is the second time we have won this award and St Lucy's is the first special school to ever win this award. The student's most recent success was in Cairns last month when Maclean Gosbee and Katie Gillis were selected to represent NSW at the national athletics championships.

Congratulations to all our sports participants, especially Maclean, Katie, Andrew, Joshua and Emily. Also, thanks to Mrs Noble for the energy and enthusiasm she puts into our sporting program at school.

Sport participation is part of the wholistic learning program at St Lucy's and we look forward to continued success in the coming year.

St Lucy's new uniform

3/12/2006

The new St Lucy's school uniform was unveiled last week at an exciting fashion parade. The sound, the vision, the balloons, the food, the music, the clowns and the jugglers created a huge buzz. But the stars of the show were the children. This historic event changed the image of St Lucy's and of children with a disability. There is much enthusiasm for the new uniform. The children in the parade did not want to take it off, they said it was so comfortable.

This smart, practical and versatile uniform will boost the self esteem of our children and project a positive image of St Lucy's School. Our new uniform will help our children be comfortable and feel good about themselves.

The new uniform is on display in the development office, please stop by to have a look and feel!

We have plenty of stock available. Contact Barbara Dickson-Mamani, our Uniform Shop Co-ordinator on 9982 4965 to arrange an appointment for a fitting. Barbara will be in the new uniform shop on Monday 15th until Thursday 18th January 2007.

There are many combinations, so you can mix it up and have some fun!
