Enrolment

There are three main intake points for enrolment at St Lucy's although a vacancy may always arise through family relocation or for other reasons.

  • The first intake is for school beginners into the Start Right program.
  • The second is into the Primary program and is for children 6 years and over whose learning needs are best met by a cooperative learning environment in classes of 10-12 children.
  • The third entry is into the Aim High program which is a preparation for high school for children from mainstream schools as well as those who transfer from the Primary classes at St Lucy's.
As places at St Lucy's are sought after, we have an Enrolment Panel including the Principal and a Board Member, to review all applicants and make final decisions about the allocation of places.

Please contact St Lucy's during Term 1 regarding closing date for applications for the Start Right program. Applications must be forwarded to the School by closing date. Parents will be notified of the result of their application before the end of July, so that there will be time for them to make alternative arrangements if necessary.

Applications for the Primary and Aim High programs are accepted at any time during the year prior to enrolment and consideration is given to the date of application in allocating places.

In evaluating an enrolment application, the suitability of the program for the child and the needs of the class as a whole are taken into account.

In order to be accepted at St Lucy's, a child must be eligible for funding in accordance with the Commonwealth Government's disability funding guidelines. These guidelines recognise different categories of disability: cognitive, language, behaviour, physical disability, vision, hearing, autism etc. Details are available on the website. It is important to note that assessment of cognitive function must be by a Weschler test (such as the WISC III) or a Stanford Binet test. Several popular tests are no longer accepted by the Commonwealth for funding purposes, including the Griffiths and the DAS.

Please contact St Lucy's for further information.
