St Lucy’s Dance Project began in 2012 to provide quality Dance workshops for students with disabilities. Dance Project aims to extend skills and confidence while creating a place for lots of fun!
Following Abbotsleigh School’s involvement in the annual ABBOX of FUN camps, and the success of St Lucy’s All Abilities Theatre Project, both of these schools are pleased to present ‘DANCE PROJECT’. This collaboration project invites students to enjoy the fun and expression of Dance on a regular basis. Workshops are designed by the Performing Arts Departments of both schools, for children of all abilities, with a special focus on children with special education needs. Students will be taught by performance artists and supported by St Lucy’s staff.
The students go directly from afternoon assembly to have afternoon tea with the Dance Project staff. We begin each Dance Project session with fun warm up activities that are based on solid Ballet technique. Students work on spontaneous and designed choreography using different genres of music. They hone technique and collaborative skills. Dance Project students are supported by Senior Dance students from Abbotsleigh who join the project each Tuesday afternoon.
Dance Project also invites parents to Open Sessions and the students have the opportunity to perform at Abbotsliegh Dance Concerts and St Lucy’s End of Year Concerts.
Please watch the website for Open Session information.
